Kit picks for the ENVE Stone Circle
Stone Circle will be taking place over the last weekend of June, just one week after the summer solstice, and riders will tackle either a 220km, 137km or 82km route that will encompass roads, fast rolling gravel trails, woodland singletrack and disused railway tracks, with amazing views of Stone Henge. All of this will commence at Old Sarum Fort, with the routes exploring Salisbury Plain.
In other words, it’s going to be an epic weekend, but one where riders will need to come prepared. There will be support, including ride captains in place to check up on participants, feed stations (four for “The Bastard”, the longest route, three for “The Rebel”, the mid-range route and just one on “The Jester”, the fun route), and mechanics at the start and the feed stations, to help deal with more technical issues.
However, there are long stretches when riders will need to be self-sufficient, and the event advises everyone to carry snacks, spares, the tools and kit necessary to deal with punctures and basic mechanicals and ride on tyres at least 35mm wide for the fun route, 38mm wide for the other routes. They also advise riding either a dedicated gravel/cyclocross bike or a lightweight hardtail MTB, although E-Bikes can participate in “The Jester”.
We’ve been at the event the past two years, with teams of both riders and mechanics participating. Here are some recommendations for kit that Josh Lambert, one of Saddleback’s mechanics from last year, thinks that no Stone Circle rider should be without.

Silca Ultimate Tubeless Sealant

This sealant offers excellent puncture protection, as it can seal up to a 6mm hole, which is perfect for the higher volume, fast-rolling tyres you find on gravel bikes. The hybrid latex solution is safe to use with CO₂ cannisters too, so if you ever do need to plug a hole on the ride, you can use a CO₂ shot to get quickly back up to speed.
